自然の力と機械構造が交差する瞬間を捉え、環境に呼応する動力的な彫刻作品を制作しています。貝殻や羽根など、生物の抜け殻を使用し、自然由来の素材と金属でできた機械的な要素を融合させ、時には風や太陽光、雨といった変わりゆく自然エネルギーを受けながら、作品が揺れ、振動し、形を変えていきます。
自然のエネルギーが持つ予測不可能なリズムや自然物が作り出す有機的な形に惹かれ、人工的な構造と出会うことでどのような変容が生まれるのかを探求しています。生命を持たないものが、環境と呼応することでまるで息づいているかのように振る舞う。その瞬間に立ち会うことで、鑑賞者が「無常」と「変容」を身体的に感じ取れる場を生み出すことを試みています。風や光に反応したり、自然物をなぞって音を奏でる作品は、意図的な制御ではなく、環境の変化や自然物の形そのものが表現の一部となることを大切にしています。
テクノロジーと自然が対立するものではなく、互いに作用し合いながら新たな関係性を築いていくものとして捉え直すことを目指しています。ただ鑑賞するものではなく、音や匂いなど環境そのものも含めて「感じる」といった行為を通じて、世界に潜む目に見えないリズムを感じ取るための装置を制作しています。
Claire Fujita creates kinetic sculptures that capture the moments where the forces of nature intersect with mechanical structures. Using natural remnants such as shells and feathers, she fuses organic materials with mechanical elements made of metal. Her works respond to shifting energies of the environment—wind, sunlight, or rain—causing them to sway, vibrate, and transform in form.
Drawn to the unpredictable rhythms of natural energy and the organic shapes formed by nature, she explores what transformations occur when these meet artificial structures. Objects without life begin to behave as if they are breathing once they enter into dialogue with their environment. By witnessing such moments, viewers are invited to physically experience impermanence and transformation. Her works, which respond to wind or light, or trace natural forms to produce sound, emphasize that expression is not dictated by intentional control, but emerges from environmental changes and the inherent qualities of natural objects.
Fujita aims to reconsider technology and nature not as opposites, but as forces that act upon one another to build new relationships. Her sculptures are not simply to be viewed—they are devices for sensing the invisible rhythms that lie hidden in the world, engaging multiple senses such as sound, smell, and the surrounding atmosphere.
